DLA Piper publishes its Sustainability Report for 2021/22

DLA Piper has today published it annual Sustainability Report covering the period May 2021 to April 2022. It presents a comprehensive update on the firm’s sustainability strategy, progress and performance. It is the second year that the report has been produced in alignment with sustainability reporting standards key to DLA Piper.*1

This report aims to give the firm’s stakeholders an account of how it is addressing the sustainability topics that are most important to it and to them. It will be of interest to anyone wanting to know about the firm’s drive towards being a more sustainable and responsible business.

For the first time ever the report uses, as a basis for its content, a recently-completed double-materiality assessment. This examines the importance of ESG issues both through the lens of their impact on the financial health of the firm’s business as well as the outward impact on society and external stakeholders. Also a first, all non-carbon performance metrics used in the report have been independently verified by sustainability consultancy Corporate Citizenship, with carbon emissions data verified by the Carbon Intelligence consultancy . This provides an increased level of assurance in the figures used throughout the report and ensures the firm is held to a greater level of accountability.

The core of the report is structured around 15 material issues and explains the firm’s view on, and plans for, managing each of these topics. It includes:

  • In-depth data on progress made against the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion goals
  • Performance against the firm’s carbon reduction goals, including country-level metrics (for the first time)
  • Details of the firm’s ambition to understand the environmental impact of its client work and how it can make a positive impact in this area
  • A regional highlights report, which showcases key activities happening across its diverse office network, providing regional-level performancv

JP Douglas-Henry, DLA Piper’s Managing Director of Sustainability & Resilience, commenting on the publication of the report, said: “DLA Piper has always strived to be at the forefront of positive change on ESG issues amongst law firms. Our Sustainability Report provides verified and credible evidence of our progress towards meeting our sustainability commitments and hopefully contributes to the advancement of best practice within our industry.”
