DLA Piper shortlisted for the CEE Legal Matters Deal of the Year Award 2024
Vienna, April 3, 2025 – DLA Piper was shortlisted in the prestigious CEE Legal Matters Deal of the Year Award 2024, which recognizes outstanding transactions in Central and Eastern Europe. The global law firm was shortlisted for its legal advisory services to the sole arranger of voestalpine AG’s EUR1 billion debt issuance program and the EUR500 million green bond issued under it — the first green corporate bond by a European steel company.
This landmark transaction, which significantly contributes to the transition toward a more sustainable economy, was legally led on the banking side by Corporate Partner Dr. Christian Temmel, MBA, and Counsel Dr. Christian Knauder-Sima. DLA Piper advised Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank as the sole arranger and also supported Banco Santander S.A., Erste Group Bank AG, Raiffeisen Bank International AG, and UniCredit Bank GmbH as dealers and lead managers.
The CEE Deals of the Year Awards have been running since 2017 by CEE Legal Matters – the leading source of news and information about the lawyers and legal industry in Central and Eastern Europe. They celebrate the transactions, financings, IPOs, and other deals that underpin growth throughout the region, as well as the lawyers and law firms who make them happen. CEE Legal Matters received 325 submissions for the 22 Deals of the Year Awards for 2024. Based on all these submissions, a total of 217 deals are eligible for one or (in some cases) multiple awards this year. The winners were announced at the CEELM Deal of the Year Awards Banquet on April 1 in Prague.
Dr. Christoph Mager, Country Managing Partner at DLA Piper in Austria, commented: “This top position is a fantastic recognition of our team’s excellent know-how in handling complex capital markets transactions. voestalpine’s Green Bond issuance is a prime example of how sustainability and financial markets can be successfully combined".
