Paul Burney has practised for over 20 years in the field of commercial real estate. He has extensive experience in private and public sector portfolio management, landlord and tenant matters, development and real estate finance, although Paul’s principal focus lies with investment acquisitions and disposals (both freehold and leasehold). His clients include central government departments, leading retail and manufacturing companies, investment houses and pension funds.

Paul’s work covers many sectors of the real estate market, including corporate occupiers, industrial, logistics, retail, energy and student accommodation.

The projects have been selected because of their significant value, whether that be in monetary terms or to the client’s strategic aims, and also for the sense of professional satisfaction one obtains from a successful outcome.

EXPERIENCE

  • Advising a major Real Estate Investment Trust, in the onshoring of a portfolio of industrial and retail estates together with its subsequent refinancing. Project Value GBP50m. Project completion 2020.
  • Advising a local authority pension fund, as landlord, in letting the entirety of a central London investment property for its redevelopment as an office centre. Capital value GBP2m with a combined annual rental income of GBP850,000.
  • Advising a professional services pension fund in the acquisition land for and the development of an industrial estate consisting of 139,000 sqft of warehousing and distribution space. Project value GBP27m.
  • Advising an investment fund, as purchaser of a portfolio of three industrial estates in the South East. Project value GBP19.5m. Project completion 2018.
  • Advising a multi-national infrastructure group based in the UK, as principal contractor, in the redevelopment and subsequent management of on-campus accommodation and welfare facilities at a number of red brick universities.
  • Advising a local authority, as funder, of a build to rent development of high quality serviced accommodation in central Manchester. Project value GBP60m. Project completion 2018.
  • Advising Greater Manchester Waste Authority on the procurement of its waste management services following the termination of its existing waste PFI project. Project completion 2019.
  • Advising a national utilities network operator, as seller, in the disposal of a majority stake in its UK business. The project required the co-ordination of a number of strands, resulting in the transfer of around 20,000 properties. There was extensive cross office co-operation, demonstrating our team’s ability to work seamlessly in order to meet the client’s high expectations.
  • Advising Vital Energi in relation to the development and construction of the Greater Manchester Civic Quarter Heat Network, providing a highly efficient, environmentally-friendly heat and power solution for some of Manchester’s most iconic buildings. Project Value GBP20m.
  • Advising The Welsh Government on the implementation of its first roads PPP, the A465 Heads of the Valley Project. Project value GBP500m.
