DLA Piper advises Digital Edge on pan-India data center

DLA Piper has advised Digital Edge (Singapore) Holdings Pte. Ltd. (Digital Edge) as it entered into a partnership with the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and AGP DC InvestCo Pte Ltd (AGP) to develop a pan-India portfolio of hyperscale data centres. The facilities will operate under the brand name Digital Edge DC and intend to support the country’s ongoing digital transformation and provide much-needed capacity for the rapid growth of India’s cloud industry.

The partnership’s first project is a USD2 billion greenfield 300MW hyperscale facility in Navi Mumbai, which is the country’s biggest data centre hub offering easy access to infrastructure, including power and fibre connectivity. Construction of the 47 acre site will commence in early 2023 and the facility will be built in multiple phases. Upon completion, the data centre will be fully operated by and marketed by Digital Edge DC.

Digital Edge was founded by a seasoned senior management team with decades of industry experience and an established track record of value creation in the data centre, cloud and telecommunications industries in the Asia Pacific region. Backed by leading alternative investment firm Stonepeak, Digital Edge has in excess of USD1 billion in deployed and committed capital, establishing itself as a market leading pan-Asia data centre platform.

DLA Piper Country Managing Partner for Singapore Joseph Bauerschmidt, who led the transaction, commented: “We are delighted to have once again advised Digital Edge, this time on its first highly strategic investment in India. The project highlights our client’s commitment to enhancing India’s digital economy and showcases our firm’s expertise in high-value and complex digital infrastructure transactions in the region.”

The DLA Piper team was led by Joseph Bauerschmidt, with support from Nathan Bush, Partner and Head of Antitrust and Competition in Asia, and Ying Chern Tan, Senior Associate, Corporate. All lawyers are based in Singapore.

DLA Piper has also represented Digital Edge in various complex matters in seven Asian jurisdictions over the last three years.
