Matthew Demeo joined the firm’s Employment and Labour group in 2020. Matthew is a practical and strategic labour and employment lawyer who advises employers on complex workplace issues and advocates for them in negotiations and legal disputes. Matthew routinely assists organizations throughout Canada and abroad in navigating a broad range of human resources issues and handles all employment-related aspects on corporate transactions. Matthew has appeared before labour arbitrations, administrative tribunals and at the Ontario and Federal courts. He has acted as lead spokesperson in collective bargaining negotiations and assisted employers in crises, including in response to union organizing campaigns and strikes.
Richard Mar joined the firm’s Toronto office in 2019. As a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property and Technology group, Richard assists with all aspects of acquisition, transfer and protection of intellectual property rights with a concentration on patent counselling and prosecution. Richard has considerable experience with drafting and prosecuting patent applications and developing a global patent filing strategy for clients in a wide variety of technology areas. He is admitted to the bar in British Columbia, Ontario and New York and is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the American Bar Association. An active member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC), Richard is an instructor for the Patent Agent Training Course and is Chair of the Young Practitioner’s Committee.
Titus Totan joined the firm in 2017 as a member of our Employment and Labour group. Titus provides advice on a broad range of workplace matters, including employment and contractor agreements, incentive and equity entitlements, workplace investigations, performance management, disability management, workplace policies, occupational health and safety, workers’ compensation and human rights. He also advises on employment law aspects of corporate transactions. Titus represents clients at all stages of the litigation/complaint process before Ontario courts and tribunals. Titus has extensive experience seeking and responding to urgent injunctive relief, including concerning employee fraud, misappropriation of confidential information, breach of fiduciary duties and breach of restrictive covenants. Titus frequently provides training to clients on recent legal developments and is regularly invited to speak at conferences and seminars throughout Ontario, including those offered by the Human Resources Professionals Association and Osgoode Hall Law School.
