Paul Shadle is a partner in DLA Piper's Development, Land Use and Government Affairs practice group. He concentrates his practice in the areas of general real estate development transactions, corporate real estate services, land use and zoning, public-private finance and incentives, historic preservation, and government affairs. Mr. Shadle represents owners, developers, investors, lenders, retailers and a variety of entrepreneurial and institutional clients in complex real estate, private and public financing, annexation, zoning and government-related matters for corporate, office, industrial, retail, residential and mixed use development projects.

  • Representation of developer of mixed-use commercial, institutional, and residential project on full-block site adjacent to Chicago’s Holy Name Cathedral, including entitlements and incentives
  • Representation of developer rehabilitating former Marshall Field’s headquarters/flagship store in downtown Chicago, including entitlements and incentives
  • Representation of hotel developer in obtaining land use entitlements and tax incentives for rehabilitation and additions to Chicago Landmark structures on North and South Michigan Avenue
  • Representation of developer in acquisition, entitlement, public/private financing, and development of urban infill site with 60-unit mixed-use retail/residential tower
  • Representation of Fortune 500 company in partial disposition, sale-leasebacks, entitlements and public financing for redevelopment of headquarters campus, and headquarters relocation
  • Representation of Fortune 500 company in sale-leaseback of offices in multiple states
  • Representation of national retailer in acquisition, entitlement and public-private financing for adaptation of Landmark structures in multiple locations to retail uses
  • Representation of developer in acquisition, entitlement and TIF financing for multi-tower, 630-dwelling unit mixed-use redevelopment of an urban hospital campus
  • Representation of oil and gas company in disposition of integrated subsidiary and related real property
  • Representation of the developer of a former steel plant brownfield into a 500+ acre mixed-use development, including City of Chicago commitment of US$100 million in tax increment financing
  • Representation of a pension fund in the relocation, approval and development of its new headquarters in suburban Chicago and disposition of its existing headquarters
