Peter Shelford is admitted as a solicitor in England & Wales (1975) and Hong Kong (1996). Based in London from 1975 to 1996, then in Hong Kong from 1996 to 2001, he joined DLA Piper Singapore as a partner in May 2001. His principal areas of practice are commercial litigation and arbitration with an emphasis on insurance, reinsurance and construction. He also advises the insurance industry generally on investment into Thailand and on various insurance regulatory issues.
He is a member of the Law Society of England & Wales and the Maritime Law Association, Singapore, a fellow of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators, a member of the regional panel of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, a panel member of the Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration, a panel member of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, and a panel member of the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration. He is currently accepting appointments as an arbitrator and has delivered numerous Awards. He has acted as both a sole arbitrator and as a member of a three man panel.
Peter has been involved in various other litigation matters, including construction, product liability, banking, personal injury, shareholder disputes and defamation. He has substantial experience of English, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thai arbitration procedures and is particularly experienced with LMAA, ICC, SIAC and TAI arbitrations.
