DLA Piper partner Dean Fealk joins board of National Democratic Institute

DLA Piper is pleased to announce that Dean Fealk, the firm’s Northern California co-regional managing partner, has been named to the board of the National Democratic Institute.

Since its founding in 1983, the National Democratic Institute (NDI), a Washington, DC-based, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization chaired by former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, has worked to support and strengthen democratic institutions worldwide through citizen participation, openness and accountability in government in 156 countries and territories around the world. NDI and its local partners work to promote openness and accountability in government by building political and civic organizations, safeguarding elections, and promoting citizen participation. It brings together individuals and groups to share ideas, knowledge, experiences and expertise that can be adapted to the needs of individual countries. Its work upholds the idea that democracy is a human right, a principle enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Fealk, a Wall Street Journal-bestselling author whose thought leadership has appeared in Forbes, The Atlantic and NPR, advises innovative companies on strategic issues related to complex international regulatory challenges. He also advises world leaders and politicians on public policy issues across international trade, economics and foreign policy. He has advised three US presidential campaigns and represented the state of California on trade and investment missions around the globe.

Active in civic leadership, Fealk serves on the California Workforce Development Board, as chair emeritus of the Northern California District Export Council and as a founding member of the Halifax International Security Forum. He served as national co-chair of Lawyers for Biden and serves on the board of directors of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, Bay Area Council and the California Business Roundtable, and as a trustee of World Affairs. He has been designated an honorary Senator of the German Economy, an Eisenhower Fellow to China, a Marshall Memorial Fellow to the EU, a Fulbright Scholar to Korea, a Presidential Leadership Scholar, a Carnegie New Leader and a Truman National Security Fellow. Fealk is a graduate of Leadership San Francisco and a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
