Cartel Enforcement Global Review 2020

Since DLA Piper’s original review of global cartel enforcement in 2017, competition authorities have further intensified their enforcement activities in relation to horizontal collusion, especially in strategic sectors such as technology and digital services, construction, transport and mobility services, life sciences, financial services, retail and consumer goods, agriculture, food and energy.

Our 2020 update provides insights into trends that have emerged around the world, using our global network of competition and antitrust lawyers to track the latest developments in cartel enforcement.

The unprecedented challenges relating to the COVID-19 crisis have affected enforcement activities from the first quarter of 2020 and contributed to re-design priorities and organizational efforts by Competition Authorities, which are mostly focusing on matters affecting primary needs.

Investigations in other key sectors such as the digital economy, which were becoming more and more critical before the pandemic outbreak, will have increased visibility in the coming months.
