About

John Guarin has managed multiple international tax and corporate restructuring projects from their initial planning through the various phases of legal implementation in Latin America and the Caribbean.

He has had hands-on experience with such projects as international holding company structures, IP migration, regional operation centers, offshore procurement centers, entity elimination projects (liquidations, mergers, strikeoffs) and supply chain structures. His role has been focused on the determination of foreign tax and corporate effects; steps required to achieve overall project goals; presentation of alternatives; and provision of solutions and their effective implementation.

In addition to international tax and corporate matters, John has handled other areas of local law including customs, regulatory, exchange control, IP, employment and immigration in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Since joining DLA Piper in 2008, John has also managed projects in Europe and Asia.

Prior Experience

John worked with a Big 4 firm's international tax and legal practices for more than 15 years, based in Barbados, The British Virgin Islands, Colombia and the United States. John was the director of that firm's Latin American and Caribbean legal practice and an International Tax and Legal Services partner in Bogota.
