Ah-SAHN-chey-yef Of Counsel
About

Nadia Asancheyev brings two decades of leadership, problem solving and entrepreneurship in national security law to DLA Piper.

Nadia counsels clients through all aspects of transactions that implicate the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), including jurisdictional analyses, advising on CFIUS risk for mandatory and voluntary filings, the filing process itself and negotiating national security agreements. Nadia advises clients on their obligations with regard to the recent Department of Justice Bulk Data Security Program and whether their data transactions are prohibited, restricted or outside the scope of rule. She also advises clients on the Outbound Investment Security Program and crafts tailored compliance programs to address companies' particular needs.

Nadia joined DLA from the National Security Division of the Department of Justice (DOJ), including the Foreign Investment Review Section as a regulator for both CFIUS and Team Telecom. At the National Security Division's Office of Law & Policy, Nadia represented the DOJ at the National Security Council on the most pressing challenges of the day and solved other complex issues with other federal agencies, including the intelligence community within the national security space.

Prior to her time at the DOJ, Nadia led the Georgetown Center on National Security and the Law as its first executive director, where she taught national security law, was the managing editor of the Journal of National Security Law & Policy, and developed and implemented Georgetown Law's LL.M. in national security law – all towards the goal of developing the next generation of national security leaders.

She began her career as a law clerk to the Honorable Richard Owen in the Southern District of New York and then, as a white-collar criminal defense associate in New York City.
