Jock is a dedicated and results-driven Partner at DLA Piper, specialising in commercial litigation with a focus on large infrastructure disputes, financial lines and professional services litigation and complex liability disputes. Jock also acts for businesses and professionals in regulatory investigations and conduct inquiries. 

In addition to acting for clients in a wide variety of litigated matters and commercial negotiations, Jock regularly advises professional service providers and industry bodies on risk management issues peculiar to their businesses.

EXPERIENCE

  • Acting for Western Power in its defence of class actions (involving more than 500 plaintiffs and a potential damages claim of approximately AUD1-2bn) arising from bushfires that caused significant property damage in Western Australia;
  • Acting for an international mining and materials company in a confidential information dispute concerning the design of mining infrastructure.
  • Acting for a barrister in a highly publicised malicious prosecution action.
  • Acting for a leading intellectual property services firm in a complex IP dispute involving a medical invention
  • Medical malpractice matters have included representing all of the common, and less common, health professionals, including in coronial inquests, catastrophic injury and fatal accident claims, wrongful birth claims and acting for those professionals in disciplinary complaints.
  • Acting for doctors, physiotherapists and other Allied Health professionals in response to complaints made to Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), including several matters escalated to the State Administrative Tribunal.
  • Acting for a director involved in a corporate raiding conspiracy involving numerous investigations and examinations. 
  • Acted as coverage counsel in an ACCC investigation into alleged price-fixing and cartel conduct.
  • Representing various energy operators on ASIC investigations involving insider training, breach of continuous disclosure, and greenwashing.
  • Acted as coverage counsel with respect to claims for indemnity for costs incurred by a disability services provider in responding to various Notices to Produce and to Attend issued as part of the Disability Services Royal Commission.
  • Defended a major national transportation and logistics company in a WorkSafe prosecution. The prosecution raised complex and novel issues regarding the limits of responsibilities when rolling out experimental and market-leading technology
  • Acted as coverage counsel in with respect to a historical pollution investigation by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation relating to PFAS contamination.
