Dr Liu Wei is a senior partner of the Corporate Practice Group of DLA Piper, who is well recognized in handling Greater China related legal matters, with a speciality in Capital Markets practice. Dr Liu has advised more than 100 companies on restructuring and listing matters, and provided legal advice to dozens of major companies on a general retainer basis. Dr Liu also has extensive experience in cross border M&A, China foreign direct investment, real estate and foreign-related litigation.

Dr Liu is the lead partner for the PRC Government Affairs, handling matters related to mainland China practice. In 1988, Dr Liu participated in the drafting work of the Hong Kong Basic Laws, and then worked on the Securities and Futures Commission as the China affairs officer responsible for the supervision and policies of red chip shares, H-shares and B-shares, and was responsible for coordination with the China Securities Regulatory Commission, Shenzhen Stock Exchange and Shanghai Stock Exchange. Dr Liu has worked in Beijing, London, New York and Hong Kong and is qualified as a lawyer in China, Hong Kong, England and Wales.

His key clients include Bank of Communications, Air China, China Southern Airlines, Sinopharm Group, National Council of Social Security Fund, Tong Ren Tang, SMIC, Bank of Beijing and China Coal Energy Company.
