Peter Shelford's principal areas of practice are commercial litigation and arbitration with an emphasis on insurance, reinsurance and construction. He also advises the insurance industry generally on investment into Thailand and on various insurance regulatory issues.

Peter is experienced in all aspects of litigation and international arbitration, with particular emphasis on insurance and reinsurance, having been practising in this area for 40 years. As co-Chair of the insurance sector for DLA Piper in EMEA and Asia-Pacific, Peter is responsible (with his co-Chairs) for the development of the firm's insurance and reinsurance practice, with a specific emphasis on the Asia-Pacific region, and is now widely recognised as one of the leading lawyers in Asia within these areas. In addition to claims related matters, he has also advised clients on various insurance regulatory issues and investment possibilities in Thailand and with his team, has developed a good working relationship with the Thai insurance regulator, the Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC).

Peter has been involved in various other litigation matters, including construction, product liability, banking, personal injury, shareholder disputes and defamation. He has substantial experience of English, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thai arbitration procedures and is particularly experienced with LMAA, ICC, SIAC and TAI arbitrations.

Peter has acted for claimants and respondents in numerous arbitrations and attended arbitration hearings, in England, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, PRC, Sweden and Moscow, being both solicitor and counsel of record.
