Jack often advises on innovative or ‘first of a kind’ projects, and is proud to have played a role advising on a number of significant energy transition and sustainable development projects across Australia and the broader Asia-Pacific region.

He has advised across the full spectrum of energy and natural resources sector-related legal issues, including project acquisitions and disposals, project developments, commercial and host government contracts, approvals, and regulatory issues, acting both in private practice and as in-house legal counsel.

Known for his dependability, Jack sets the bar high. His proactive, hands-on and detail-oriented approach combines sector-specialist legal expertise with practical commercial advice, leading to successful outcomes for his clients.

EXPERIENCE

  • The project developer on Australian carbon credit unit projects in Queensland and New South Wales.
  • Offshore wind project developers on Feasibility Licence applications for development of the first offshore wind projects in Australian waters, including advising on the Australian offshore wind regulatory regime and drafting and negotiating project contracts.
  • Bellevue Gold on LNG supply arrangements to firm renewable energy generation supporting its Western Australian gold mining operations.
  • The World Bank on a comparative law exercise reviewing offshore wind regulatory regimes globally and advising on development of a regulatory framework for a south-east Asian nation.
  • Mabanaft on its investment in the SM1 green methanol project in South Australia.
  • Senex Energy on various major projects and transactions, including the joint venture arrangements for the Kogan Creek renewable hydrogen project, and several of the company’s most significant gas sale agreements.
  • Carnarvon Energy on its decarbonisation projects, including carbon credit project investments and carbon credit offtake and purchase arrangements.
  • Helmerich & Payne on its strategic alliance with Tamboran Resources in the Northern Territory and associated drilling and services contracts.
  • The Government of Timor-Leste on the regulatory frameworks and host government arrangements for offshore oil & gas projects in the Timor Sea and associated public international law matters, and on negotiation and implementation of the landmark Maritime Boundary Treaty with Australia.
  • KOGAS on price review matters under LNG sale and purchase agreements across the Asia-Pacific region.
  • The project sponsors (a consortium of Sojitz and TTCL) on LNG sale and purchase arrangements underpinning power sector development in a south-east Asian nation.
  • Mitsui E&P Australia on joint venture arrangements for the development of the Meridian onshore gas field in Queensland.
  • SunCable on development of the Australia-Asia PowerLink project, involving large-scale solar, storage and subsea transmission cable, and other company projects. Jack was previously in-house Senior Legal Counsel at SunCable.
