DLA Piper (Canada) LLP is delighted to announce that Karen Fellowes, associate in the Calgary office, has been named a recipient of the International Women's Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation's (IWIRC) 2017 Founders Awards.
With networks across Asia, Europe, and North America, the IWIRC is a U.S.-based professional organization committed to the connection and advancement of women in the insolvency and restructuring sectors. The annual Founders Awards celebrate members whose remarkable efforts have aided the growth and success of the IWIRC. Karen is the winner of the Fetner Award for Outstanding International Contribution.
Karen is an experienced bankruptcy and insolvency lawyer specializing in commercial re-organizations, corporate workouts, and restructurings. She currently serves as the IWIRC's Canada Networks Director and is Past Chair of the Western Canada Network, which she helped found in 2011. Among many initiatives she has led during her tenure, Karen is particularly lauded for establishing strong ties between the Western Canada Network and the Ontario Network to expand business development opportunities for members across the country.

Building upon her ongoing efforts to champion the advancement of women professionals, Karen travelled to Nepal recently to deliver training seminars to female Nepali lawyers as part of DLA Piper's New Perimeter global pro bono initiative.
Karen will be presented with the Fetner Award at the IWIRC's 14th Annual Spring Conference in Washington, D.C. on April 20, 2017.
