DLA Piper (Canada) LLP is proud to continue its sponsorship of Pro Bono Going Public, a free outdoor legal advice-a-thon organized by the Access Pro Bono Society
of British Columbia to promote access to justice for individuals with low to modest incomes, including the homeless who may otherwise lack access to traditional free legal advice clinics.
Now in its 10th year, the event spans four cities in BC and relies on the efforts of over 100 volunteer lawyers who offer their counsel on a wide range of legal issues. This year, service has been expanded to include a province-wide telephone clinic to provide access to those living outside of the host cities.
In addition to being a sponsor, the firm is organizing a team of lawyers who will contribute their time at the Vancouver clinic on September 8, 2017 and also raise funds to support Access Pro Bono programs. “DLA Piper is deeply committed to pro bono work, with ongoing initiatives around the world aimed at improving access to justice,” says Alex Hudson, an associate in the Vancouver office who is organizing the firm’s participation, “I am proud to be joined by my colleagues to serve our local community by raising awareness and finding ways to protect the basic rights of those who are unable to afford legal services.”
Team DLA Piper currently includes Morgan Burris, Monique Evans, Alex Hudson, Tamara Hunter, Michelle Isaak and Kristen Woo as well as articled students Dustin Chelen, Stephanie Ovens and Taryn Urquhart.
