Ryan McNamara is an associate in the firm’s Commercial Litigation and Environmental groups. He ‎provides sophisticated advocacy and advisory services to private sector clients on legal issues related ‎to environmental and commercial law.

As part of his general litigation practice, Ryan assists clients with a range of civil and commercial matters, ‎including breach of contract cases, shareholder disputes, and environmental litigation. He has particular ‎experience helping clients to address potential liability for environmental or regulatory offences, resolve ‎property contamination disputes, and obtain environmental regulatory approvals for industrial facilities and ‎energy projects. Ryan’s environmental practice extends to providing pragmatic advice to organizations and ‎individuals on how to effectively comply with variety of environmental statutes and regulations, including ‎the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act and the Ontario Environmental Protection Act.

Ryan received his J.D. from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law, where he participated in two ‎interventions by the David Asper Centre for Constitutional Rights, one before the Ontario Court of Appeal ‎and the other before the Supreme Court of Canada. He was awarded both a David Asper Centre fellowship ‎and a Student Law Society fellowship, which sponsored his work on several appellate cases as a staff ‎member of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association. During his legal studies, he also worked as a research ‎assistant and volunteered with the Canadian Environmental Law Association.‎

Ryan was called to the Ontario bar in 2019. He is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, Canadian Bar ‎Association, Environmental Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association, and Osgoode Society for ‎Canadian Legal History.‎
