About

Michael Greig has over twenty five year's experience in planning and infrastructure law including substantial in-house planning authority experience. He advises public and private sector clients on all aspects of the planning process, including advocacy at inquiries and hearings as well as judicial review. Michael’s experience extends throughout the United Kingdom including the promotion of private legislation in the Scottish Parliament, promotion of development consent orders and advising the UK Government on infrastructure provision and the development of new legislation. 

Michael's practice  includes compulsory purchase and he has particularly extensive knowledge of  roads law. His experience of local authority procedures means that he plays a key role in public sector property transactions.

Prior Experience

  • Acting for National Highways In the promotion of development consent orders for upgrading of the A1.
  • Advising Transport Scotland on strategic transport projects including Forth Replacement Crossing and implementation of major road projects north of Newcastle.
  • Acting for Perth & Kinross Council in relation to the Perth West strategic development site.
  • Advising on representations to an offshore wind farm in Wales and securing the first legal requirement to mitigate wake loss impact on an existing wind farm. 
  • Advising Elgin Energy on solar development across the UK.
  • Acting for Hallam Land Management on promotion of strategic housing sites including advocacy at local plan inquiry, successful legal challenge to Edinburgh City Local Plan, support for planning applications, appeal advocacy and drafting section 75 agreements.
