Roger Lane-Smith was until April 2005 Executive Chairman and Senior Partner of DLA Piper and since then has served the Firm as Senior Consultant. In that role Roger maintains a close relationship with the Firm and he continues to focus on corporate finance working with corporate partners on transactions for a number of the Firm’s clients.

Roger qualified as a Solicitor in January 1969 and in October 1977 established what is now the Manchester office of the Firm. Roger was one of the principal ‘Founders’ of the present firm of DLA Piper having served as Managing Partner then Chairman of Alsop Wilkinson which in 1996 merged with DLB to create what we know as DLA Piper. He was deputy Senior Partner of the Firm until 1998 when he was elected Chairman and he worked closely with Sir Nigel Knowles in building the Firm through its global expansion including the merger with Piper Rudnick and Gray Cary in 2005.
