Chambers International Arbitration 2021 Global Practice Guide – Trends and Development in China

China encompasses a number of arbitral jurisdictions, the most popular of which are in Hong Kong and Mainland China. In the past year, we continued to see a significant rise in the number of arbitration cases seated in Mainland China and Hong Kong and strong development of the arbitration market despite the pandemic. The Queen Mary University of London 2021 International Arbitration Survey reported that HKIAC was ranked third and CIETAC was ranked fifth in terms of the most preferred arbitral institutions – meaning two of the top five most preferred arbitral institutions are located in China.

The most significant development in the past year has been the continued liberalization of the international arbitration market in Mainland China and the strengthened ties between Mainland China and Hong Kong in terms of integration, recognition and assistance for enforcement of arbitral awards and interim measures in aid of arbitration.

We are delighted to be a contributing firm to the Chambers International Arbitration 2021 Global Practice Guide. Our commentary authored by Ernest Yang, Kelvin Chen and Queenie Chan provides insight to the latest trends and development of the arbitration practice in China.
