Serving food banks to fight local, national and global hunger

For more than 30 years, DLA Piper has been active in hunger relief at the local, national and international levels. The firm devotes pro bono resources to help ensure that food is available to those who need it most by regularly holding nationwide food drives and sending volunteers to pack food to support local food banks. In the current climate, all our offices across the country have mobilized to hold virtual food drives.

Hunger relief is one of our firm's signature project focus areas, and we represent food banks across the country as well as Feeding America, the largest domestic hunger relief organization in the United States, and The Global FoodBanking Network, which we helped create more than ten years ago through New Perimeter.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we are particularly proud to provide pro bono assistance to food banks, serving on the front lines of this crisis. Many of our food bank clients are working to support the 30-400 percent increase in demand from families in need, and they are finding ways to deliver meals to children, many of whom relied on schools for at least one nutritious meal per day before the crisis began. They are doing all of this at a time when both food supply chains and traditional volunteer models have been disrupted.

DLA Piper lawyers from across the country are helping these food banks carry out their missions by providing continued legal assistance to navigate these challenges. Many of our lawyers are in daily contact with their food bank clients and are meeting weekly to share common questions and solutions.
