At DLA Piper in Italy, we look for opportunities to use our strength as a leading global business law firm to make a positive contribution in our local community. In line with what our firm is doing at a global level, our local Corporate Responsibility initiatives focus on key areas of Pro Bono, Community Engagement, Diversity and Environmental Sustainability. Our collaboration with corporate clients, academic institutions and community partners distinguishes our approach. As a law firm a key element of our contribution to our communities is the Pro Bono work our professionals provide to people, associations and organisations in need.
The firm is involved in many local initiatives in Italy, a few of which are highlighted below.
Fiori di Lavanda
DLA Piper supports Comitato Fiori di Lavanda Onlus, an Italian charity established in 2010 to fund research into childhood leukemia. The Charity is proud to be supported its patron, the British Ambassador to Italy, Christopher Prentice CMG. The Charity has two distinct goals in the area of leukemia research: supporting the S. Gerardo Hospital in Monza in building a new research and treatment centre and funding a number of Italian research assistants from Monza to collaborate with English research centres. Further to being a donor, the firm has been supporting the charity with pro bono legal services, as well as organizing events and fundraising each year at our Milan Christmas concert.
Daniele Padovani Prize
Since 2007, DLA Piper and Società Italiana di Diritto Internazionale (an Italian nonprofit Law Society dedicated to international law studies) have awarded the "Daniele Padovani" Prize for the best university thesis in International law. The prize is named after a former DLA Piper professional who passed away at an early age a few years ago. We offer the winner a 3-month internship programme at one of our offices in Italy, which gives these talented students a chance to gain hands-on experience in a global law firm, as well as the potential to enter a full-time trainee role following their internship.
FAI - Fondo Ambiente Italiano
DLA Piper Italy is Corporate Golden Donor of FAI - Fondo Ambiente Italiano, a nonprofit foundation founded in 1975 by a group of people committed to do something concrete to protect, preserve and enhance the historic, artistic and natural Italian heritage. More than a foundation that solely restores and opens to the public historical buildings, monuments and natural areas, FAI is a citizens’ movement that has aims to fight indifference to the deterioration of the Italian environment and the risk of losing the extraordinary Italian artistic heritage. FAI’s mission is to promote the culture of respect for the Italian environment, as a set of nature, landscape, architecture, arts and traditions, and to help people to appreciate the heritage around them thereby increasing their sense of responsibility for its preservation. In addition to financial contribution we give as a donor, we provide the foundation pro bono legal services to ensure they can focus their resources on their core purpose of protecting Italian heritage. In particular, we assisted FAI with relation to promotional activities off and on line.
