DLA Piper's privacy talks series

Federal cybersecurity issues and initiatives

In this Privacy Talks session, we discussed federal cybersecurity issues and initiatives.

In particular, we looked at the Cybersecurity Act of 2015 (CSA) and the Automated Indicator Sharing (AIS) initiative, managed by the Department of Homeland Security. It's been a year since DHS launched the AIS initiative, as mandated by the CSA, to facilitate real-time sharing of cyber-indicators between public and private stakeholders. Among the questions we discussed: How does AIS wok? What has been learned from AIS? What type of information is shared through AIS? Who are the participants? How many companies have signed up? How are privacy and civil liberties concerns addressed by AIS?

We were joined by special guest Daniel Sutherland, Associate General Counsel with the US Department of Homeland Security, who recently published a law review article on how creating privacy and civil liberties structures within an organization can help advance technology and build public confidence.
