Marcelo focuses his professional practice on subjects related to oil, gas and electricity. He began his legal practice in Pemex's law department. He served as general director of legal affairs of the Regulatory Energy Commission (Mexico's equivalent to FERC).

He has over 30 years in private practice representing multinational companies in the oil and gas industry, power generation and electricity, as well as in the mining industry, in the areas of regulatory, transactional and corporate legal work.

Before joining DLA Piper, Marcelo for ten years was a partner in the Mexico City office of an international law firm, where he counselled national and foreign clients in investment areas in the Mexican energy and mining sectors.
