France: New labor law finally published

After many months under discussion, the lat relating to employment, improvement of social dialogue and safeguarding of career paths was adopted on 21 July, declared constitutional on 4 August, and finally promulgated on 8 August 2016.

China: Three new regulations to strengthen enforcement of labor laws in 2017

Under three recently issued regulations, targeted to take effect from the beginning of 2017, random checks will increase, companies will be rated on their compliance with labor laws, and severe violations will be published.

Italy: Transfer of undertakings and change of contractors

A July 2016 law provides for the Italian transfer of undertakings regulations to potentially apply to a change of contractor, in certain circumstances. This was not provided for in the previous regime.

UK: Government consultation on changes to taxation of termination payments

The Government has launched a consultation process on proposed reforms to the way in which termination payments are taxed. The proposals would significantly change the tax treatment of any payments made to employees on termination of their employment
