Prior to joining DLA Piper, Thomas Beason served as general counsel to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, where his experience included permitting, regulatory enforcement, rulemaking, and contracting. He acquired broad experience working with Florida's Governor and Cabinet, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Legislature and, on matters arising under federal environmental statutes, the Department of Justice, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Army Corps of Engineers and the Department of the Interior.

Tom was instrumental in negotiating a framework agreement with the USEPA that authorized Florida to issue permits and consent orders for construction and operation of the major new water treatment projects that are part of the Florida's $880 million 2013 Everglades Restoration Plan.

In addition, he has successfully negotiated settlements of complex, multi-party environmental cleanups.

He has appeared before state and federal trial and appellate courts, administrative law judges, agencies, boards, arbitrators and commissions.

His previous experience includes representing clients in major, multi-party construction claims and in civil and administrative proceedings related to health care licensure and public contracting.
