Peter Couto focuses his practice in the areas of intellectual property, products liability and commercial litigation.

He has an extensive background in intellectual property, particularly in the areas of trademark, trade dress, right of publicity and copyright. His experience spans from advising clients on the risks of potential new offerings, to the licensing of existing rights, to enforcement and litigation. He has worked with professional sports unions and global corporate entities, as well as individual artists, screenwriters and fashion designers. Intellectual property was also the focus of Peter's academic studies at NYU School of Law, where he wrote about right-of-publicity issues relating to NCAA athletes, and was an editor and founding member of the Journal of Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law.

Peter also has extensive products liability defense experience, particularly in pharmaceutical, medical-device and automotive litigation, as well as a substantial docket of asbestos and silica litigation. He has litigated in state and federal courts throughout the country, as part of an elite products liability practice group representing global business entities both in individual cases and as national counsel. The group was named 2015 Product Liability Team of the Year finalist by Chambers USA, and has previously been recognized by Law360 as a 2013 Product Liability Group of the Year.

His commercial litigation experience centers primarily on contract disputes, including arbitration and litigation in state and federal courts, with a majority of his experience in the Southern District of New York.
