Raja S. Gaddipati's practice focuses on complex commercial disputes, government and regulatory litigation, internal investigations and the defense of professional liability claims. He has represented clients across a number of industries, including healthcare, accounting, financial services, insurance, manufacturing, consumer goods, technology, real estate, airline and gaming. Raja has represented these clients before state courts in Illinois, federal courts throughout the country and various arbitral organizations.

In particular, Raja has significant experience defending class actions, consumer fraud, false advertising, warranty, product liability, contract, trade secret, professional malpractice and securities claims. Raja also has conducted a number of internal investigations arising from whistleblower allegations of violations of the federal securities laws, the False Claims Act and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

Raja regularly represents clients at both the trial and appellate level. Most recently, he has prevailed on four consecutive appeals to the Illinois Appellate Court:

  • Destiny Health, Inc. v. Connecticut General Life Insurance Company, 2015 IL App (1st) 142530 (affirming summary judgment for the defendants on trade secret and breach of contract claims)
  • Coe v. BDO Seidman, LLP, 2015 IL App (1st) 142215 (affirming stay of professional malpractice and related claims in favor of arbitration), appeal denied, 42 N.E.3d 369 (Ill. 2015)
  • Kaufman v. Deutsche Bank, AG, 2015 IL App (1st) 143359-U (same)
  • Lane v. BDO Seidman, LLP, 2015 IL App (1st) 142968 (affirming dismissal of professional malpractice and related claims on statute of limitations grounds)

Aside from his legal practice, Raja is actively involved in DLA Piper's internal governance, recruiting, diversity and pro bono efforts. He is the Hiring Partner and the Chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee for the Chicago office. As an associate, he served on DLA Piper's Policy Committee and Associates Committee. Raja also maintains an active pro bono practice, and has received multiple recognitions for his work in this area.
