Daniel Gunter advises public and private companies on securities regulation and corporate governance matters, focusing on public real estate investment trusts and other real estate companies.

Daniel regularly represents public, non-traded REITs in connection with public and private securities offerings, SEC periodic and current reporting compliance, corporate governance, Blue Sky securities laws, tender offers and fund formation. He has represented some of the largest sponsors in the non-traded REIT industry in both initial public offerings and follow-on offerings, including five REITs with a combined US$12.6 billion offering amount.

Daniel has represented corporate clients in various commercial real estate transactions, including joint venture due diligence, local counsel opinions and other transactions relating to office, industrial and multi-family properties. In addition, Daniel acts as outside general counsel for an international non-profit corporation.

Prior to joining DLA Piper, Daniel practiced commercial real estate law in Raleigh and was an attorney in the International Law Section of the Office of Chief Counsel of the Drug Enforcement Administration and served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney, both in Washington, DC.
