About

Brian MacKay has extensive experience in secured transactions, business acquisitions, real estate transactions and developments. 

Brian's clients come from a wide variety of industries including automotive dealerships and vehicle leasing, ski and golf resorts, forestry, fishing, sports teams and arena development. His real estate knowledge includes subdivisions, land assemblies, condominium developments, air space parcels, provision of water, sewer and other utilities and co-operative housing projects.

In addition, Brian has significant experience in public-private partnerships and general corporate/commercial matters, including asset and share purchase transactions and shareholder agreements.

Brian has also had extensive involvement in resort development and participated in the creation of the Mountain Resort Associations Act as well as the creation of the first mountain resort association pursuant to that legislation.

A significant portion of Brian’s practice is commercial lending with respect to loans secured primarily by real property assets.

  • Acted for G&W Distilling in connection with the purchase of the G&W business by Labatt’s in respect of BC liquor licensing regulations.
  • Completed the purchase of a manufacturing company for the recipient of a “shotgun” offer
  • Successfully acted for the owners at Sprit Ridge Resort in replacing resort and rental management
  • Acted for credit union in registering across Canada for auto lease financing transactions
