Harry Rudo focuses his commercial litigation practice on trade secret, intellectual property, and complex corporate litigation, as well as corporate governance and investigations. Harry has represented apparel and manufacturing companies, universities, state governments, general contractors and subcontractors, corporations, and individuals, both internationally and at the state and local levels.

Harry has secured substantial victories for clients in matters taken to verdict, on dispositive motions, and as part of early case resolutions through effective and efficient discovery efforts. These matters have proceeded in federal and state trial and appellate courts, as well as in arbitrations and mediations. Harry has also advised global corporations on cross-border issues in collaboration with DLA Piper colleagues around the world.

Harry is a member of the DLA Piper Baltimore Hiring Committee and the DLA Piper Baltimore Community Service Committee.

EXPERIENCE

A selection of Harry's representative matters include:

  • Defended Nike in trademark infringement case in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania involving allegations of reverse and forward trademark confusion.
  • Secured complete dismissal with prejudice of lawsuit filed against Indo-MIM alleging trade secret misappropriation under federal and state law. 
  • Secured favorable outcome in construction arbitration dispute defeating nearly all of claimant's counts and recovering majority of counterclaimed amount sought, in addition to recovering substantial portion of attorneys' fees as prevailing party.
  • Secured complete dismissal with prejudice of purported class action filed against Resource REIT and its directors alleging damages to shareholders in the form of stock dilution and failure to consider the value of potential claims in sale negotiations.
  • Secured favorable resolution on behalf of medical provider in negotiations with state agency regarding claims of Medicaid fraud.
  • Represented the Independent Commission investigating the culture of the University of Maryland football program after the tragic death of linebacker Jordan McNair. This investigation resulted in the creation of a 192 page report following 165 interviews of players, coaches, and other individuals connected to the football program.   • Secured favorable settlements on behalf of Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 engineering and design companies resolving litigation with subcontractors and general contractors in federal district court cases involving breach of contract allegations regarding manufacturing military equipment meeting detailed technical design specifications.
  • Won a bench verdict in favor of New York University in an ERISA class action alleging that NYU mismanaged retirement plan offerings on behalf of its 20,000 participants and seeking over $350 million in damages. This case was the first of more than a dozen similar class actions filed against other universities to go to trial and win.

  • Leading DLA Piper Baltimore Community Service Committee, running annual summer camp carnival for children with cancer at Horizon Day Camp, organizing food and clothing drives, and collaborating on local fundraisers.
  • Representing Baltimore children with special learning needs in securing targeted educational opportunities.
  • Collaborating with the Maryland Office of the Public Defender representing convicted persons in appellate cases.
  • Executive board member of the Gilman School Alumni Association Board of Governors.
  • Board member of the Phi Beta Kappa Alumni Association of Greater Baltimore.
  • Commissioner of the Baltimore Lawyers Softball League, a sixteen-team softball league in the Greater Baltimore area including teams from local law firms, state and local legal agencies, and local law schools.
