Eric Skeffington concentrates his practice on real estate development, acquisitions and dispositions, finance, joint ventures, land use and zoning. Eric has additionally represented clients in leasing negotiations, and previously oversaw retail leasing efforts at several US-based international airports.
Eric has represented owners and developers of a wide array of development projects—both in Boston and elsewhere—from due diligence, acquisition and permitting stages through joint venture financing, construction loan financing, and disposition. In connection with those efforts, Eric has a breadth of experience in local, state and federal permitting matters and has negotiated a number of development agreements and land disposition agreements with private parties and public entities.
Eric additionally helped form and represents a number of multi-jurisdictional real estate portfolio funds, leading efforts on their financings, dispositions and acquisitions. His clients range from small, privately held real estate companies to multi-national REITs conducting cross-border transactions. Recently, Eric has represented clients in connection with several acquisitions and dispositions with values exceeding $100 million and in connection with loans with values ranging from $15 million to $870 million in a number of US markets, including Boston, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Southern Florida and Colorado.
Eric is also extensively involved in many of DLA Piper’s pro bono initiatives. In addition to running DLA Piper’s veteran’s legal clinic since 2015, he has advised and helped form eight 501(c)(3) nonprofits, regularly participates in the Greater Boston Legal Services housing clinic, and has represented charitable organizations and indigent individuals on a host of real estate and other legal matters.
