Ranulf Barman is a commercial and regulatory lawyer, with a strong focus on advice and transactions in the life science and food sectors, respectively.

Ranulf possesses unique government experience having previously worked at the UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency ('MHRA'), the Department of Health ('DoH') and the Food Standards Agency ('FSA').

Ranulf combines his insights and expertise of heavily-regulatory sectors  with sound commercial acumen to help his clients navigate through complex and ever-changing regulatory and legal challenges.

Since moving from his various government roles to his legal career, Ranulf has advised a multitude of clients ranging from start-ups through to global pharmaceutical, food and MedTech companies.

EXPERIENCE

Legal experience:

  • Advised multiple clients on the impact of the UK's departure from the EU on their compliance with ongoing and future medical device & IVD regulations.*
  • Advised numerous pharmaceutical clients across a broad range of regulatory matters including, early access schemes, clinical trial obligations, adverse event reporting and engagement with regulators.*
  • Advised a diagnostics University spin-out on its IP licensing and manufacturing agreements.*
  • Advised numerous global food and cosmetics companies on the compliance of their European labelling and product warnings.*

Government experience:

  • Managed a UK MHRA team of compliance investigators to ensure the safety of medical devices and IVDs on the market.*
  • Co-lead EU Competent Authority on Medical Devices ('CAMD') programme on the implementation of new EU Medical Devices and IVD Regulations.*
