Cathal is Legal Director within our Irish tax team. Cathal has a wide range of experience advising domestic and international clients across a variety of sectors.

Cathal advises on all aspects of international and Irish corporate tax law, with a focus on structuring of international operations, group reorganisations and other related tax matters.

Cathal is a Chartered Tax Advisor. Prior to joining DLA Piper, Cathal worked in a 'Big Four' tax practice and a domestic Irish law firm. He also was seconded to a large Irish plc, working on a range of matters including the implementation of significant group restructuring and financing projects.

  • Advising a leading US medical device company on the establishment of operations in Ireland.
  • Advising Ardian on Irish tax aspects of its acquisition of Energia.
  • Advising a major multinational group on all tax aspects of establishment of a treasury centre in Ireland.
  • Advising a NYSE listed biopharmaceutical company in relation to a transfer pricing mutual agreement procedure.
  • Advising multinational groups and corporate clients on complex pre-sale and post-sale reorganisations, including carve-outs, corporate simplifications, financing restructurings, acquisition integrations and cross-border group restructuring projects.
  • Advising a variety of multinational groups on all tax issues associated with establishing a presence in Ireland including Pillar Two, withholding taxes, permanent establishment risks and expat taxation.
  • Advising on tax due diligence projects in connection with corporate acquisitions, disposals, investments and reorganisations, with a particular focus on corporation tax, indirect tax and employment tax risks.
  • Advising domestic and multinational clients in relation to Irish Revenue interventions, including tax audits, enquiries and voluntary disclosures.
