Rockwell Bower serves as counsel in DLA Piper’s Dallas office. As a trial lawyer, Rockwell frequently handles business disputes and injunctive remedies to advance the client’s broader business strategy and obtain effective outcomes for their goals. His practice focuses on commercial litigation, sports and entertainment, hospitality, and information privacy. 

Rockwell regularly advises entities and individuals in the sports and entertainment industries, including athletic organizations, esports properties, and media rights holders on contractual matters, compliance, intellectual property, and potential liabilities. Additionally, he counsels entities in the hospitality industry to mitigate legal and reputational risk, including contract negotiations, transactions, compliance and privacy, and dispute resolution. 

As a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) and Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), Rockwell’s practice includes identifying, evaluating and managing risks associated with clients’ privacy and cyber security issues. He frequently advises clients on implementing privacy policy frameworks, data breach notification procedures and compliance with U.S. state and federal privacy regulations, including CCPA, GLBA, HIPAA, HITECH, FCRA, and global data protection laws (GDPR).

  • Obtained complete defense verdict on behalf of regional healthcare provider in commercial dispute with vendor
  • On a case of first impression, successfully defeated challenge to defer confirmation and enforcement of international arbitration award under New York Convention
  • Successfully challenged licensing requirements with state regulatory authority and obtained reinstatement of hospitality operator's license, avoiding business interruption and potential suspension or termination of business
  • Successfully represented entity in private arbitration involving commercial dispute concerning software development agreement
  • On appeal, successfully affirmed trial court's enforcement of restrictive covenants for real property, declaratory judgment and award of attorneys' fees
  • Successfully obtained mandamus relief for collegiate athletic conference asserting dominant jurisdiction in alternative forum, effectively terminating litigation
  • Successfully resolved information security breach, including identification, prosecution and recovery of lost assets from malicious actors, favorable resolution to all third-party claims, and implementation of data management program and technology protocols
  • Successfully represented entity in private arbitration involving commercial dispute interpreting contractual rights and obligations
  • Successfully defended injunctive relief claims against national commercial developer involving alleged restrictive covenants, easements and conveyance, real property rights and zoning ordinances in construction of production facility for major automotive manufactures
  • Successfully defended injunctive relief claims against commercial title company from alleged theft of trade secrets, including five separate temporary injunction proceedings in both state and federal court, and successfully defeated breach of contract claims
  • Successfully defended injunctive relief claims against oil-and-gas company from alleged theft of patents and other trade secrets in bet the company litigation, involving challenging the validity of non-competition agreements, validity of assignment of intellectual property and patent
  • Obtained multiple complete defense verdicts on behalf of national supermarket chain involving tort and vicarious liability claims
  • Obtained summary judgment for retailer on allegations of civil rights violations and discrimination under 42 U.S.C. § 1982
