Rob Bridgman is an experienced projects lawyer, acting for a range of public and private sector clients on major infrastructure projects and complex transactions (encompassing both PPP/PFI structues).  

Rob works across sectors, including transport, accommodation and defence, with a particular focus on rail projects. 

Rob’s strength lies in developing a deep understanding of the intricacies of a transaction and proposing solutions to complex issues helping clients to meet their strategic needs.

EXPERIENCE

  • Advising a Passenger Transport Executive in relation to two transformational projects: the first for the procurement of new rolling stock (whereby Rob led on the development of the manufacturing and maintenance contracts, coordinating with the wider transaction team which included the outsourcing of the maintenance function and construction of a new depot); the second in relation to the acquisition of infrastructure to remove capacity restraints and increase network resilience, whereby Rob led the advice on the commercial and complex regulatory impacts of integrating the additional infrastructure (with the continued presence of third-party freight traffic), working closely with real estate, construction and procurement colleagues.
  • Advising a train operator in relation to two major projects: for the procurement of new multi-mode rolling stock (where Rob leads the development of the manufacturing contract and has a key role in the coordination across the team and in respect of wider the suit of documents); and strategic advice on the renewal of rolling stock leases.
  • Advising the Welsh Government on the A465 MIM Project (a GBP500m project to build, finance, operate and maintain a dual carriageway on Sections 5 and 6 of the A465 (Heads of the Valleys)).  Rob played a key role in the contractualisation of technical schedules and supporting the project wider team.
  • Advising the project company (CAE Aircrew Training Services Plc) in respect of its Concession Contract with Ministry of Defence and other third party contracts relating to the operational Medium Support Helicopter Aircrew Training Facility on an ongoing basis (including complex mid-life variations as well as in relation to shareholder matters).
  • Advising the Agility Trains in connection with the Intercity Express Programme, the award-winning multi-billion procurement by the UK Department of Transport of a fleet of new intercity trains and supporting maintenance for a 30 year term. This complex project was the first use of a PPP structure in the UK for rolling stock procurement. Rob provided ongoing advice to Agility Trains in respect of all operational matters and major variations of the project.
  • Advising a rolling stock manufacturer in relation to a series of bids to supply new rolling stock.
