Michael Patrick Brown is an entertainment, media, and intellectual property litigator with multiple years' experience counseling clients through novel and challenging legal problems in high-profile settings.
Michael has represented Grammy-award-winning singer/songwriters, major motion picture studios, entertainment executives, private equity firms, and international corporations facing and contemplating a diverse array of claims including breach of contract, fraud, trademark and copyright infringement, false advertising, defamation, and unfair competition. Michael has hands-on experience at many stages of California state and federal court, from pre-filing, pleadings, discovery, motions for summary judgment, as well as extensive experience in arbitrations and other dispute resolution settings.
In his matters, Michael often took a lead role in strategic development by building and guiding a case strategy with hands-on involvement with the client. For clients he represented, Michael also handled cutting-edge modern legal issues, such as addressing the scope of Section 230 for internet-related businesses. Michael has also seen through many of his matters to successful outcomes for his clients, including, among others: arguing and prevailing on request for injunctive relief of more than $25 million for client in California state court, prevailing on motion to dismiss complaint alleging copyright and trademark infringement claims in federal court, developing strategy to remand action to state court and prevailing on motion to remand, and settling multiple matters at mediation with favorable outcomes for clients.
Prior to joining DLA Piper, Michael worked as a judicial extern for The Honorable S. James Otero of the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
