Dan works on a broad range of contentious and non-contentious intellectual property matters for clients operating in a variety of industries and sectors and for global companies and well-known brands.

He advises clients on strategies to build, maintain and exploit their trademark portfolios, including providing gap analysis services to identify areas for additional protection and coverage, and also manages the day-to-day running of the portfolios of a number of global companies.

Dan also has experience of clearance work and trade mark registry dispute proceedings, including working with DLA’s global network to advise and assist clients on complex multi-jurisdictional disputes. In addition, he has experience in relation domain name disputes, company name disputes, strategies for dealing with counterfeit products, customs recordals, and copyright.

EXPERIENCE

  • Conducting and co-ordinating global trade mark portfolio reviews and ongoing advice on global brand protection and portfolio management strategies for global technology and construction clients.
  • Carrying out gap analysis projects, including an audit of the global trademark portfolio of a well-known cosmetic company, identifying gaps in their protection and risks posed by these gaps in their current portfolio.
  • Acting for a UK gaming company in relation to filing and opposition matters.
  • Acting for a global food manufacturer in their defence of multi-jurisdictional invalidity actions, including advising on defence strategy and running the UK registry proceedings.
