Carie Cartwright focuses her practice on international trade, economic sanctions, and export controls.  

Carie primarily assists clients in understanding complex legal regimes governing the international trade of goods, services, technology, and cross-border investments.

In her practice, Carie routinely advises clients on matters related to compliance with export controls and economic sanctions laws and regulations administered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), and the U.S. State Department’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC).  Carie also represents clients in national security reviews before the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).  

Her experience includes evaluating and enhancing sanctions and export control compliance policies, procedures, and training for clients spanning a wide array of industries.

Carie’s experience also includes representing clients on antidumping and countervailing duty proceedings before the Department of Commerce and the International Trade Commission, as well as customs and import matters including U.S. Harmonized Tariff Schedule classification, non-preferential country of origin determinations, and preferential duty treatment under various free trade agreements and programs.

Carie is also actively involved in pro bono projects regarding enhancing compliance with international criminal law, international humanitarian law, and international human rights law in fragile and conflict affected states.
While in law school, Carie served as a research assistant for Professor Michael Newton, and assisted him with filings and oral arguments before the International Criminal Court.
