Chris Duerden focuses his practice on patent litigation. Chris represents global companies in a variety of technology fields including automotive, semiconductors, integrated circuits, navigation, medical devices, mobile communication, and communications technology. Chris has years of experience representing his clients in patent District Court and International Trade Commission (ITC) trials.

Chris has worked for and with companies ranging in size from Fortune 500 to startups helping them achieve their goals. He is comfortable with a wide array of technologies, especially the high-tech fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, additive manufacturing, laser technology, software design and development, automotive electronics and communication protocols, electric and self-driving cars, and manufacturing engineering.

EXPERIENCE

Chris’s recent litigation matters include:

  • NextGen Innovations, LLC v. Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc. et al, 2:22-cv-00307 (EDTX 2022) - Defended Fujitsu in a patent infringement action relating to fiber optic networking. The case was pending before Judge Rodney Gilstrap and Magistrate Judge Roy S Payne in the EDTX and settled favourably in 2023.
  • Panasonic Holdings Corporation v. Broadcom Corporation, 6:22-cv-00755 (WDTX 2022); Panasonic Holdings Corporation v. Broadcom Corporation, 6:22-cv-00756 (WDTX 2022) – Represented Panasonic in a patent infringement action relating to microprocessors, integrated circuits and wireless-networking components. The case was pending before Judge Alan D Albright in the W.D. Tex. and settled favourably in 2023.
  • SpaceTime3D, Inc. v. LG Electronics, Inc. et al, 2:22-cv-00049 (EDTX 2022) – Defended LG Electronics in a patent infringement action relating to mobile device user interfaces. The case was pending before Judge Robert W. Schroeder in the EDTX and settled favourably in 2023.
  • Fundamental Innovation Systems International LLC v. General Motors Company et al, 2:21-cv-00282 (EDTX 2021) – Defended Aptiv in a patent infringement action relating to automotive electronics and communication protocols. The case was pending before Judge Rodney Gilstrap in the EDTX and settled favourably in 2022.
  • Ahern Rentals, Inc. v. Equipmentshare.com, Inc., 2:20-cv-00333 (EDTX 2020) - Defended Equipmentshare in a patent infringement action relating to industrial equipment electronics and communication protocols. The case was pending before Judge Rodney Gilstrap in the EDTX and settled favourably in 2022.

RECOGNITIONS

Chris received the Benjamin Kaplan Copyright Award from Suffolk University for the paper he authored on the copyright issues caused by the development of advanced 3D printing.

Prior Experience

Prior to law school, Chris worked as an engineer for several automotive tier 1 suppliers and as head of research and development for several electronics companies.
