Nicholas Helmer

Nick Helmer has a broad-ranging practice that encompasses all aspects of commercial real estate and has established himself as a trusted business advisor to his clients which include regional developers as well as publicly traded real estate investment funds.

Nick started his career as an associate at DLA’s predecessor firm working primarily on residential acquisitions, construction and development for both developer/borrowers and on behalf of numerous financial institutions. During the past 20 years, Nick served in-house as general counsel for a private real estate development and property management company overseeing numerous hotel developments, new construction projects and landlord representation for a 300 + commercial retail/office/restaurant portfolio. Most recently, Nick led a FinTech investment fund’s organization of a new PropTech company to acquire one billion dollars of single-family homes (SFR). Nick thrives on creating value opportunities by evaluating and implementing technology solutions to every aspect of real estate investment. 

Nick has always worked hard to support DLA’s pro-bono clients. In 2023, Nick joined the Board of Directors of Little City Foundation. Little City proves services and housing to individuals with disabilities in Illinois.
