Declan McBride practices in Irish and EU financial regulation with a broad range of experience in a number of regulated sectors, including banking, investment services, payments, e-money and FinTech.

Declan has experience advising both domestic and international financial service providers on a range of regulatory issues including authorisation requirements/processes, conduct of business rules, compliance projects, regulatory change management, regulatory engagement (including enforcement and inspections), public policy initiatives, corporate M&A and loan portfolio sales.

Declan uses his experience gained in-house and in-practice to provide pragmatic and commercially focused advice to clients.


  • Advising the Special Liquidators of IBRC (formerly Anglo Irish Bank) on the sale of the Irish Nationwide Building Society residential mortgage portfolio.
  • Advising a number of UK retail and investment banks on their Brexit planning including advising on Irish licensing requirements, engagement with the CBI, and restructuring of operations.
  • Advising a number of domestic and international investment banks on the implementation of MiFID II including updating of policies & procedures and customer documentation.
  • Advising a number of Irish banks on the CBI’s investigation and enforcement action in respect of tracker mortgages.
