About

Yoshiyuki advises both domestic and foreign financial investment institutions and investment funds on Japanese financial regulations for over 20 years at international law firms in Tokyo. Prior to joining DLA Piper, Yoshiyuki was Partner in an international law firm and is a part of a group that is recognized as a top investment management practice in Japan by Chambers Asia Pacific

Yoshiyuki has advised numerous financial clients in obtaining regulatory registrations and association memberships in Japan (Type 1, Type 2, Investment Management, Investment Advisory and Agency, Remote Membership and various Financial Instruments Dealers Associations) and establishing proper compliance regime.

In addition, Yoshiyuki has advised as Japan lead counsel of a wide range of Japan domiciled funds including parallel funds.

EXPERIENCE

  • Represented investment funds and managers in making filings required by the regulations in Japan, such as large shareholding report and foreign investment trust/corporation notification under the Investment Trusts and Investment Corporations Act. *
  • Represented various international financial institutions including registered investment managers and Type 1 financial instruments business operators in engaging in mock audits to confirm compliance readiness.*
  • Active involvement in various governmental policy making (e.g. advising Tokyo Metropolitan Government on subsidy program for foreign investment mangers; provided lecture titled “Issues in connection with the establishment of funds in Japan by foreign managers that may seek to invest in Japan" at the subcommittee on Startup Policy of Headquarters for Achieving New Capitalism in Liberal Democratic and conducting web seminars with Japan FSA Market Entry Office).*
