Miles Schaffrick practices regulatory, privacy, and competition law. He assists clients and senior counsel on regulatory issues across the product lifecycle, including product development, market entry, and commercialization, and also supports regulatory and competition investigations.

His work includes advertising and marketing regulation, privacy compliance and data governance, consumer protection, and competition law. Miles advises on product labelling and marketing claims, compliance with advertising standards, misleading or deceptive practices, and data use and transparency obligations. He also supports enforcement risk assessments and practical compliance strategies, including for data‑driven and AI‑enabled products. His competition experience includes merger review and investigations involving cartel conduct, drip pricing, and abuse of dominance.

Miles also assists with administrative and public law matters and has experience assisting in the preparation of submissions before administrative tribunals and courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada.

Miles will complete a judicial clerkship with the Supreme Court of British Columbia beginning in September 2026. He earned his J.D. from the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia (UBC) as a Wesbrook Scholar, the University's highest designation, and represented UBC in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. He summered and articled with DLA Piper.

Prior Experience

Prior to joining DLA Piper, Miles worked with the Litigation Management Unit at Indigenous Services Canada. Before that, Miles worked with Neuroethics Canada to explore the ethical, legal, and social implications of advances in neuroscience. While there, Miles helped found the Bioethics Council for Canada.
