Heather Schuman practices primarily in the area of domestic and international franchising, licensing and distribution transactions.
Her experience includes drafting franchise, licensing, distribution and related agreements for both established franchisors, as well as new franchisors, and assisting in the structuring of franchise programs. With regard to international brand expansion, Heather has assisted clients with franchise, licensing and distribution transactions in Australia, Asia, Canada, Central America, Europe, the Middle East and South America. Specifically, Heather has worked with large retail companies in various sectors (including apparel, furniture and home accessories) in structuring complex franchise deals for expansion into nine different countries.
Heather has also practiced in the area of general commercial litigation, including the representation of clients in a wide variety of matters, such as insurance, class actions and breaches of fiduciary duty.

Heather's pro bono activity includes participation in DLA Piper's Signature Pro Bono Project in conjunction with the Juvenile Justice Project at Northwestern University, where she represented juvenile clients in criminal matters.
