Senior AssociateSimon is a regulatory, investigations and corporate defence lawyer specialising in trading, consumer and safety law with a particular focus in the retail/consumer, hospitality, food and drink, manufacturing and transport sectors.
Simon advises clients in relation to: health and safety, consumer protection; advertising and marketing; pricing and promotions; product safety; food safety and hygiene; food and drink labelling; transport; licensing; GSCOP; and trading rules. He has advised clients extensively in relation to Brexit and has a focus on international trade.
In relation to health and safety, Simon supports and has worked on high profile investigations and prosecutions and also provides advice in relation to strategy and compliance. Simon has also assisted clients in relation to investigations and enforcement (e.g. withdrawal, recall, prosecutions) by regulators in relation to product and food safety. Simon has supported clients prosecuted in relation to underage sales and in relation to unfair commercial practices.
In relation to product and food law, Simon regularly advises on the compliance requirements for placing food and products on the market with respect to safety, information, labelling as well as product claims and health and nutritional claims specifically. Simon regularly advises and supports clients in relation to consumer related issues, e.g., price establishment, price integrity, price comparisons and compliance with Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations and other consumer law. His experience extends to advertising and marketing and compliance with the CAP and BCAP Code.
In relation to other trading law Simon’s expertise extends to GSCOP, Modern Slavery and Sunday Trading law as well as other trading requirements.
Simon’s role is split between both providing advice in respect of compliance and strategy and criminal investigations. This includes representing clients in regulatory enforcement investigations, inquiries, and criminal investigations and prosecutions. He also regularly supports organisations and authorities with their own internal investigations.
