Gurj is a leading technology and outsourcing lawyer, advising clients on a wide range of IT, AI, data, and strategic sourcing transactions. She specialises in technology contracts, including on-premises software, SaaS, cloud, escrow, software licensing, application development and management services.  Gurj also has extensive experience in material and regulated outsourcing projects.

Gurj's clients include companies in a range of sectors including technology, banking, sports, food and energy including Gurj's recent secondments to HSBC and National Energy Systems Operator, providing her with valuable experience in these sectors. 
 

EXPERIENCE

  • Gurj advised one of the largest global AI developers on its research and development activities and identifying the risk and the relevant mitigations of using AI within its products. The consideration of IP infringement claims, and possible damages claims were considered.
  • Gurj advised a leading discount provider on its transformation of its IT infrastructure to support its global scalability. Gurj advised on the IT and data protection elements of the transformation project.
  • Advised a leading global tech-enabled healthcare on its master licence agreement for its base software for its key healthcare App. Gurj advised on the key licence issues regarding the underlying application software, the requirements for the configuration of the application and advised on the relevant ownership of IP relating to all levels of the application.
  • Advised a global bank on its major IT outsourcing project for its personalised electronic communications platform which would be used with the bank's retail banking consumers. Gurj assisted from the pre-bid stage to negotiating the contract with the preferred bidder. Gurj considered a broad range of issues relating to the transaction that included areas such as AI, data, financial regulation requirements including the PRA supervisory statement requirements.
  • Gurj advised another global AI developer on the development of its large language model (LLM), specifically advising on the AI, IP, data, ethics, regulatory and contracting issues. Gurj provided advice regarding the training of the LLM to contracts the third party providers.
  • Gurj played a key role in advising National Grid Electricity System Operator Limited (NGESO) on its separation from National Grid and its sale to the UK Government, becoming the National Energy System Operator (NESO). This complex transaction involved multiple practice areas, including IP and Technology, Corporate, Real Estate, Employment and Pensions, and Finance. Gurj's expertise was crucial in navigating the legal intricacies and ensuring a successful outcome for this transformative project in the UK's energy sector.
