Mariana specializes in representing multinational corporations in the energy and natural resources, infrastructure, construction, and transport sectors. Her extensive experience includes handling both international commercial arbitration and investment treaty arbitration cases, involving significant amounts in dispute. She has successfully managed disputes seated in both common law and civil law jurisdictions, under the rules and procedures of major arbitration institutions such as ICC, LCIA, and SIAC.

EXPERIENCE

  • Representing Goldgroup Resources, Inc. in a pending ICSID arbitration, concerning a series of judicial decisions which stripped claimant of its shares in a gold mining project
    • Case remains pending, and claimant is seeking approximately US$ 115 million in damages: (Goldgroup Resources, Inc. v. United States of Mexico, ICSID Case No. ARB/23/4)
  • Representing a multinational energy company in an ICC arbitration seated in New York relating to a dispute over a turbine purchase contract
  • Representing multinational energy company in an ICC arbitration, seated in New York, in a dispute arising out of a combined cycle power plant
  • Representing a state-owned transportation system in an ICC arbitration in a dispute arising from a long-term service contract
  • Represented a renewable energy company in connection with an ICC arbitration seated in Mexico relating to a dispute over the renovation of a wind farm
  • Represented multinational energy company in an ICC arbitration, seated in Mexico, in a dispute arising out of a combined cycle power plant
