Sofia is a Litigation & Regulatory Associate with over 4 years' experience in high value and complex disputes. Sofia advises corporate and public sector clients on general commercial and corporate disputes, arbitrations, class actions, investigations and financial services disputes. Sofia also has experience working on large high-profile cases, public inquiries and judicial reviews.

Sofia has a wealth of invaluable experience in dispute resolution both domestically and internationally, dealing with high value, complex and time pressured disputes to an exceptional standard. Sofia previously worked in the Litigation and Arbitration group in Sydney, Australia, where she acted on several international mandates including an arbitration seated in The Hague.

Sofia was awarded the Rising Star of the Year at the Yorkshire Legal Awards in 2024, described by the panel as “a remarkable individual who has achieved great success since qualifying just a few short years ago. EXPERIENCE

Sofia's experience includes:

  • Defending a national bank in a multi-million pound ongoing fraudulent misrepresentation dispute in the High Court of England & Wales (889 Trading Limited v Clydesdale Bank plc & Ors (2021) EWHC 850 (Ch), 889 Trading Ltd v Clydesdale Bank Plc and Others [2023] EWHC 215 (Ch)).
  • Acting for the same client in a successful application for an Extended Civil Restraint Order against the claimant.
  • Acting for two US industrials clients on a series of high-profile product liability and personal injury claims, and representing the clients in criminal and regulatory investigations, and before a Public Inquiry. Sofia has defended and settled several group actions concerning allegations of negligence and breach of various statutory duties and is presently defending a c. GBP400m commercial claim for first party losses and contribution.
  • Acting for the same clients in significant group costs litigation, involving the detailed assessment of the generic, common and individual costs of over 900 claimants represented by 14 claimant firms.
  • Acting for a European headquartered bank in a multi-million pound fraud claim issued in the High Court.
  • Acting for a United Nations entity in an arbitration concerning the sale of defence equipment to Ukraine during the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
  • Acting for a development finance institution in relation to the termination of various infrastructure contracts in West Africa.
  • Acting for an international defence contractor in relation to the procurement of defective military vehicles in Australia.
  • Acting for a leading global airline in relation to a claim in the District Court of New South Wales concerning one of Australia’s first luxury conservation resorts.
  • Advising a global leader in smart transportation technologies in relation to the enforcement of civil fines in ten European jurisdictions.
  • Acting for a UK bank in a successful application for summary judgment/strike out on the basis of the claimant’s failure to (1) plead fraud adequately in respect of its mis-selling claim; and (2) to overcome the bank’s limitation defence to LIBOR manipulation allegations. This was the first case to be decided on the issue of limitation in LIBOR-rigging claims.
  • Acting for a UK bank in a successful application for an urgent injunction to compel the respondent to deliver up 1,600+ customer records which the respondent had unlawfully retained without the bank's consent.
  • Acting for a UK government department in the defence of judicial review proceedings relating to contracts allegedly unlawfully awarded to third parties during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Acting for a UK government body in an ad-hoc arbitration concerning mining subsidence.
  • Acting for one of the largest veterinary practice chains in the UK on a complex dispute in the High Court of England & Wales concerning breaches of a share purchase agreement and breaches of the relevant regulatory framework.
  • Acting for a national technology company in a multi-million pound shareholder dispute concerning alleged fraudulent misrepresentations claimed to induce prospective shareholders into purchasing shares.
  • Acting for a national property developer in professional negligence proceedings issued in the High Court against a law firm with a claim value with losses exceeding GBP 21m.
  • Acting for a Fortune 500 company in respect of an internal investigation into allegations of potential fraud and misconduct. Experience includes working as a team under time pressure to review and report on thousands of documents.
